Got an address check request? Here's what it means.
ResidenceProof helps businesses confirm where people live — but only with the person's permission. You stay in control: you decide, you can add your own documents, and you can see and dispute the result.

- 1
You get a request
A business you deal with — for example your insurer — asks us to confirm your address. You receive a secure link from ResidenceProof by email or text that names the business and the reason.
- 2
You confirm it's you
Open the link and confirm a few personal details so we know the request reached the right person. After too many wrong attempts the link locks for your protection.
- 3
You decide
Read exactly what you are agreeing to, then sign electronically — or decline. If you decline, nothing is checked and the case closes.
- 4
Add documents if you like (free)
Create a free personal account to see your requests and upload photos or PDFs, such as a utility bill or lease, that support your address.
- 5
We verify
Our analysts review records, your documents and, if the business ordered one and you agreed, a field visit. A second reviewer checks every result.
- 6
You can see the outcome
Your free account shows the result of each request, with a link to dispute it if you think it's wrong.
What we check, and what you agree to
Nothing happens without your consent
We only start once you sign. The consent is for that single request — a new request needs new consent.
What we look at
Public and commercial records about the address and the people who live there, plus any documents you choose to upload.
Documents you upload
Photos or PDFs, stored securely and archived when the request is complete.
Your link is private
Consent links are unique to you, expire after 14 days and stop working if a newer link is sent.
If someone visits your home
Only if you agree
A visit happens only when the business ordered one and you authorized it in your consent. Visits are currently offered in Los Angeles, New York, Austin and Chicago.
Who comes
An identified independent field agent working for ResidenceProof. You can ask them to identify themselves.
What they do
Confirm the address and household, and record notes, location and photos of the property for the case.
If you're out
The agent records the attempt. You don't need to do anything else.
See it, dispute it, delete it
See your report

Dispute a result
If anything is wrong, file a dispute. We reinvestigate and send you and the business a written outcome.
Access or delete your data
Make a privacy request to get a copy of your data or ask us to delete it, as the law allows.
Control messages
Choose how we contact you, or opt out of messages, from our communication preferences page.
